COMB Construction founder Scott Burchell started out studying Architecture at Sydney University before moving to London in 1985 and following a variety of paths, including motorcycle mechanic, steel fabricator, furniture maker and then carpenter.

A foray into bespoke construction in the 1990’s seemed to galvanise all the experience he had gained, and provided a perfect outlet for creativity, making and problem solving.

Since its inception in 2002, COMB Construction has been working in the high-end residential market in Melbourne. Initially undertaking small renovations, COMB has grown into a medium-size builder, undertaking some of the most complex architecturally designed projects in Melbourne for some of the finest designers and Architects in the country.

With a full time team of employed carpenters, each year COMB undertake a handful of carefully chosen projects in a variety of scales.

Scott retains a strong passion for modernist and brutalist architecture, and has travelled extensively to that end — documented on Instagram @combconstruction.

Scott was invited to present his most recent trip to Brasil as a “TALK TALK” session at Candalepas Architects in Sydney, was scheduled to be a guest speaker at the 2020 AIA conference (postponed) and was taken to deliver a talk in the 2022 Spring Season at The Berlage at TU Delft in the Netherlands.

In recognition of his knowledge and passion for Architecture, in 2023 Scott was named as a member of the National Jury for the Australian Institute of Architecture Awards.
